URByTUR (Urban Studies and Tourism) is a consolidated research group at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, with an extensive trajectory in the field of geographic information technology, with links to culture, economics, business and cultural employment. Currently, the group is immersed in the project “CYTES Cultura y territorio en España. Procesos e impactos en ciudades medias y pequeñas de ámbitos metropolitanos” (Culture and territory in Spain. He holds a PhD and Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a Bachelor’s degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a degree in English Studies from the UNED (National University of Distance Education). Currently he is Associate Professor of Human Geography at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where he is director of the Geography Department. He has focused a large part of his work on the area of Tourism Geography, principally in relation to the touristic use of the city and spatial touristic development. His other main field of teaching and scientific specialization is urban studies, chiefly in aspects focused on the relationship between city, culture and heritage. In addition, he is a professor and local coordinator for the Erasmus Mundus Master’s degree Euromaster in Urban Studies, taught at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Free University of Brussels – VUB – ULB -, the University of Vienna, the University of Copenhagen and Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Geographer, holding a PhD (2005) and bachelor’s degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, he has carried out his teaching and research work in the Department of Geography (knowledge area of Human Geography) at this same university during the past 15 years, where he currently is a Lecturer. He belongs to the URByTUR (Urban Studies and Tourism) research group and to the GEOTAPLAN (Geotechnologies, Analysis and Socio-Spatial Planning) research group. The first group has a dual research specialization in urban and tourism themes. His main lines of research focus on Urban Geography (the disadvantaged, inequality and housing policies) on one hand, and on Tourism Geography (reassessing mining-industrial and railway heritage) on the other.
